Katherine McNeill
Hunter-Wolff Gallery in Colorado Springs is proud to present the vibrant and lively oil paintings by award-winning painter Katherine McNeill. Once introduced to Katherines work, her unique style is easily recognizable and impossible to forget.
The viewer immediately looses himself in her light-filled natural settings, to the point one almost believes they are standing in the middle of her scene whether the outdoors towering with aspen trees, atop a majestic mountain, at the edge of a seascape, or breathing in the fragrance of one of her magnificent floral paintings. She is also a master at capturing the very essence of ones family estate or home.
Customers often remark that they can feel and smell the mountain air and hear the quaking aspens crunch beneath their feet while observing her work. Having a beautiful mystical feeling to them, you may even discover an angel hidden ever so delicately in the trees or maybe tucked away discretely in the clouds.
Born in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, Katherine moved to the United States in 1951. Katherine's love for art started at a young age and by the time she reached nine, she was winning competitions for her artistic talents. In 1978, she and her family settled in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado and her great love for this state quickly became the focus for her work. Although a self-taught artist, Katherine says she was privileged to study under such notables as Lloyd Thorsten and the late Mickey McGuire. The 19th century landscape artists Moran and Bierstadt have also been a major influence along with portrait artists Michelangelo and John Singer Sargent. She studied at the Colorado Institute of Art and the Art's Student League of Denver.
She and her husband travel extensively throughout the mountain states and Europe, often backpacking and hiking the remote areas to obtain material for her landscapes. Her paintings are reflective of realism and existing scenes. Katherine believes that light and its unique qualities are the most exciting of natural phenomena. As Katherine recreates this excitement with paint onto canvas, it makes her paintings come alive with vibrancy so realistic the viewer feels a sense of connection. Her work has been featured in many prestigious art exhibitions and collected across the globe.
