BESTOFwinnerIt’s an honor to learn so many people feel good about what Hunter-Wolff Gallery does day in and day out, year over year. We have left a mark on their lives in some small way. It’s not an easy task but together some 40 people have come together to create something special that people take notice of.  Hunter-Wolff Gallery is not about one owner.  It is about the many talented fine artists who create beautiful work that exceed a standard of expectation. I am pleased to be part of  these results.

Undeniably, it is exciting to be recognized as a top gallery in a competitive market. When the public votes for their favorite business, and there are so many options, being named as “Best of the Springs” is thrilling. Hunter-Wolff Gallery is not the biggest art gallery,  nor the most cutting-edge, but we work extra hard to be recognized  as one of “The Best of the Springs”.  As the owner of Hunter-Wolff Gallery I am also honored to be located next to many others who in their own right are also the best — many who have stood the test of time, many who have become good friends, who have had years of experience, some celebrating thirty and forty years helping grow an art district.

Throughout 2017 we will celebrate and cherish this award and promise to focus on what we do best: build relationships. For those who think a gallery is about selling art, it is more about creating relationships with artist and those who appreciate and value art. We hope all who voted for us as “Best of the Springs”, did so because we do an excellent job caring for our customers wile building long-standing relationships.

Thank you to all the Hunter-Wolff Gallery  fans who care about us as much as we care about them. A special thanks goes to an incredible Hunter-Wolff Gallery staff and a strong, professional team of fine artists. Thanks to our fans and for taking time to vote! We are only here because of you.

In Memoriam Gary Vigen

January 2, 2017 in Art,art education,Art Gallery,Artists,Fine Art,Honors,Hunter-Wolff Gallery,Old Colorado City,Paintings,stained glass | Comments (0)

inmemoriam

Today it is with great sadness that we say good-bye to one of the finest artists and men I had the pleasure of knowing. Gary Vigen will be sorely missed by all who knew him, his family, friends, his fellow artists and so many art enthusiasts who enjoyed his art for more than 50 years. Gary was a friend who followed his passion creating fine art and became one of Colorado’s  preeminent  stained glass artists.

gary_painting_mediumI had the pleasure of meeting Gary 11 years ago as I started up my art gallery in Colorado Springs. By then he had already been working in his complex medium for nearly 50 years and had been long admired by his fellow artists. Gary was one of the original, core artists represented at Hunter-Wolff Gallery and became a good friend and sounding board. This incredibly talented man also had the gift to reach children with learning disabilities and taught for more than 30 years. After retirement, he continued to follow his passion to work with glass and made time to teach adults the joy of working with stained glass.

Hunter-Wolff Gallery will continue to offer Gary Vigen’s work until its limited inventory is depleted. You can read more about Gary in Hunter-Wolff Gallery’s Insider News, November 2016 , our November featured artist and on our website.

Farewell Gary.  You will always be remembered for your friendship and incredible talent.

Boulder Canyon by David William Ridge

If you recently made a major purchase, you likely received an online or paper survey asking for feedback about your experience. At Hunter-Wolff Gallery, we do not send out formal surveys, but we do ask for feedback. I think it is important to fill out surveys and provide feedback when asked.  It’s important to convey your satisfaction or maybe share ideas for improvement … so the next time your experience can be better.

As a result of ongoing customer feedback, Hunter-Wolff Gallery pays close attention to customer ideas and desires.  Sometimes, customers give us great tips about emerging artists, framing preferences, and other interests. We learned over the last twelve months, that collectors are interested in small paintings—even miniatures. We also learned that although sales show impressionism is hot, more realism is appreciated over as any other style.

So what do we do with that information? We act on it. To satisfy these interests, we signed on two new Colorado artists, Pamela Poll and David William Ridge. Pamela is a prolific painter of small pastels and oils, affordable for the new collector or for someone who is looking for a beautiful gift without breaking the bank. We also found a wonderful wildlife and landscape artist, David William Ridge, who will make you feel like you can smell the evergreens, feel the spray of water on your face, or hear a rustling in the undergrowth. Both artists are accomplished, gifted painters and offer a range of sizes.

Today, I stand a little taller and my smile is a little bit bigger. I was just notified that Hunter-Wolff Gallery received its 8th honor from you (our devoted fans!), and voted the Best of the Springs. It is exciting to receive the honor of being recognized as a top gallery in a competitive market! When the public votes for their favorite business, and there are so many options, being named as “Best of the Springs” is thrilling. Hunter-Wolff Gallery is not the most senior art gallery, not the biggest, not the most cutting-edge, and there are so many things we can say we are not.  But today we can say, we are “The Best of the Springs”.  As the owner of Hunter-Wolff Gallery I am also honored to be located next to many others who in their own right are also the best — many who have stood the test of time, many who have become good friends, who have had years of experience, some celebrating their 40-year anniversary in 2013. Being relatively new, opening our doors in 2005, we appreciate the many votes and followers that allowed Hunter-Wolff Gallery to be at the top of leader board and to claim this honor.  We will celebrate and cherish this award, and promise to get right back to business so that Hunter-Wolff Gallery continues to be one of the best and exceed your expectations in a competitive marketplace.

With many diligent professional artists showcasing their art on Hunter-Wolff Gallery’s walls and shelves, it is an honor they deserve.  Without these fine painters, sculptors, potters, jewelry designers, wood-turners and glass artists, I could not write these words … Hunter-Wolff Gallery is the Best of the Springs, voted by the community and all its supporters.  A special thanks goest to an incredible Hunter-Wolff Gallery staff and a strong, professional team of fine artists. Thanks to our fans and for taking time to vote! We are only here because of you.

How often is a gifted art student given the opportunity to compete for cash awards outside of school and show-off their talent in an art gallery? Hunter-Wolff Gallery is offering that opportunity this June. A juried art competition limited to student artists between the ages of 14 and 22 are invited to apply for this opportunity. There is no limitation on where a student lives.  There is a limit to the number of students, however, who will be selected. Eligible students must apply by registering before April 30. Do it today and start planning now!

The intent of this program is to provide art students with real-world experience, competing in a fine art gallery venue. With the help of a professional artist mentor, students will benefit by learning the do’s and don’ts of submitting art work in a juried competition.  All applicants must submit a non-refundable application fee of $5 with a complete Registration form to Hunter-Wolff Gallery, 2510 W. Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

Cash awards for winners of Setting the Stage are generously provided by sponsors such as Colorado Springs Style Magazine, Rick Lien at Bankers Life and Casualty Company, Todd Crystal at Crystal Capital Advisors, Tony & Marcelline Cerato, Glaser Frames of Denver,  and other anonymous supporters. More than $2,000 will be awarded at the Awards Ceremony to top winners on Friday, June 7 and the exhibit closes on June 15.

Tell your gifted friends who love the thrill of a competition and chance to win serious cash awards! Registration and requirements can be found on the Hunter-Wolff Gallery website. Contact Hunter-Wolff Gallery at 719-520-9494 or hunterwolffgallery@gmail.com with questions if something isn’t clear.  We look forward to helping set the stage for gifted young students who are interested in a future in the art world.

Good luck to each creative applicant!  We are as excited as you will be on June 7!

On Our Radar Screen

October 6, 2012 in Art,Art Gallery,Artists,Award,Colorado,Custom Art,Fine Art,Honors,Hunter-Wolff Gallery,Janelle Cox,Oils,Old Colorado City,Paintings | Comments (0)

Lavender & Poppies 16x20

Hunter-Wolff Gallery is known for its very fine regional artists, most of whom reside in Colorado. On any given day, visitors are likely to bump into one of our 30-some artists or jewelry designers because they frequently come and go to update or replace work.

There are a handful of artists, however, who live and work somewhere other than Colorado, like oil painter Janelle Cox.  We met Janelle in 2005 when she lived within 30 minutes of the gallery.  From the very start, she was one of the gallery’s most popular landscape and figurative artists with an impressionistic style. Her range of plein air and in-studio skills is broader than many artists. I quickly learned from Janelle that she is one of those people never satisfied with her own level of expertise, in spite of her success, awards and accolades. This dissatisfaction has driven her to reach beyond her comfort level and to grow as a professional. She has studied and trained endlessly to produce  some of the finest paintings collectors admire at Hunter-Wolff Gallery. We have watched her grow and develop as a mature artist with a unique style and appeal.

Hint: Why this gallery appreciates Janelle Cox ~  Janelle is open to custom work (commissions) and dedicated to her craft.  This artist is rated in our book at the top of our professional artist list. We give Janelle’s paintings high marks and we buy them for our own personal collection, too.

If you are interesting is paintings that  can be enjoy over the course of your life, we suggest considering oils by Janelle Cox for your first . . . second or tenth original painting. Whatever stage you are at in collecting artwork, you won’t make a mistake adding one by Janelle Cox to your collection.

Janelle and her husband currently reside in Austin Texas but she remains on our radar and is highly regarded among her  peers.

Frank Lloyd Wright said it best, “The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”

Believing is the first step to achievement, and then it is all about hard work, focus, integrity, and surrounding yourself with the best people you can find. At Hunter-Wolff Gallery we always look for the best artists to represent and do the best for them to meet their goals and our own business goals. Achieving recognition like “Best of the Springs” is meaningful and humbling.  We thank all the Gazette voters and believers in Hunter-Wolff Gallery for their approval and continued support.  Thank you for reminding us you are always there watching and judging.

Cindy has a lot to smile about. She owns beautiful art from Hunter-Wolff Gallery

High customer satisfaction is key to business growth.

We make this our goal every day and watch for the smile on our customer’s face and listen for the compliment from their lips. We do not send surveys to our customers but everyone knows this too is an effect tool to measure customer satisfaction levels.  My yardstick is more personal.  I simply look for repeat sales, favorable comments and smiling faces.  By asking customers for feedback and if they would likely recommend our gallery to friends and family is my most effective method of measuring customer satisfaction. This way, should I learn that a customer is not 100% thrilled, I can address the problem immediately (it rarely happens but a business owner always wants to be prepared).

Receiving public recognition and awards is also an excellent indicator of “getting it right” but don’t forget to ask those who step through your door about their opinion. They are the ones who make a difference to your bottom-line.

Tip: For those repeat customers who keep you very busy, be sure to thank them in a way they least expect – with action that shows you are grateful for their business.

The Right Art for The Right Budget

March 17, 2012 in Art,Art Gallery,Artists,Best of the Springs,Colorado,Fine Art,Honors,Hunter-Wolff Gallery,Oils,Old Colorado City,Paintings | Comments (0)

Under the Silver Moon by Clifford T. Bailey

If you have $425,000 you can find a really fabulous John Stobart painting at The Englishman in Naples Florida.  If you have a more modest budget, Hunter-Wolff Gallery can recommend a dozen or so Colorado artists to dress up your home with pieces that will make you proud to own—without all those zeros weighing down your receipt!

We are just as excited about the accomplishments of Penny Stewart, Patience Heyl, Clifford Bailey, John Sherman, Kenneth Shanika, Katherine McNeill, Marlene Kort, Kathryn McMahon …and dozens more. Who wouldn’t want to make a sale that is nearly half a mil?  The reality is few of us live that lifestyle and it doesn’t take mega-bucks to fill your life with beautiful art.  Visit us in person and see the excellent work of a dozen or so regional painters, and tell me if you would have preferred something by John Stobart.   Voted Best of the Best Gallery in Colorado Springs, March 2012, Colorado Springs Style Magazine
