Totally Unexpected

Red Explosion by Marlene Kort

Following an artist’s career can be like watching children grow-up. When they do something new, totally unexpected, and done very well, it can be a very happy occasion.  One of my favorite arists at Hunter-Wolff Gallery is a very fine pastel artist, Marlene Kort.  Marlene has a wonderful style that is easy to look at, captures the essence of her subject matter and more times than not–evokes an emotional response.  There are too many of her paintings that “got away” before I could get the money on the table and I couldn’t let that happen again when she presented Red Explosion – a new and totally unexpected style.

Marlene stepped out of her comfort zone with pastel and created a wonderful still-life oil painting that I am proud to own.  The right thing may have been to give customers at Hunter-Wolff Gallery the chance to grab this beautiful painting, but I could not pass it up.  I’m hoping she will do more oils in this style and give collectors a chance to enjoy her wonderful style, like I enjoy looking at Red Explosion every day on my living room wall.

What do you think?  Doesn’t this work put a smile on your face and make you feel like you stumbled onto something really special?
