Potter’s Envy

December 1, 2012 in Art,Art Gallery,Artists,Blue | Comments (0)

Having had the pleasure of knowing Robyn and Curt Elliott, Colorado Springs Potters for several years now, I know that incoming work will be accepted for collectors.  They specialize in creating high quality raku vessels and plates for Hunter-Wolff Gallery.  What comes in the door is always top of the line and designed with a careful eye to detail.  What is different about the clayware they deliver is that it is designed and created by two and has to pass the “seal of approval” by not one artist but two before it is presented for final approval here at Hunter-Wolff Gallery.

I can only imagine that when they take the final step in their process and are assured of  success, it brings big smiles to both Curt and Robyn; conversely, when they experience a failure–like all potters face because of this difficult medium–the disappointment affects both.  They seem to always be in sync with ideas, designs, and the many steps it takes to create a single collectible piece.  They really make my job easy because I have never rejected their work for any reason.

The image in this posting is from one of several pieces delivered today.  I was hoping to get a smaller piece and this fit the bill.  Standing at 10.5″, the glaze on this raku sparkles like a faceted gemstone.  I wish I could wear it around my neck. The color is unlike any other vessel we have ever displayed and it reminds me of the giant blue drusies in our jewelry display case, twinkling in the sunlight.

Whether or not you are  a fan of pottery or the color blue, I think this piece is going to get the attention it deserves and can only guess that other potters will admire Robyn and Curt’s collection with a little envy. In this case, a little envy just might make every potter who admires their work a little better at what they do.
