Tired of that black ring around your neck from sterling silver?  Tarnish is natural when silver oxidizes but it can make a black mark on your skin. Good news for silver lovers who want their silver to stay shiny and not blacken. A brand called Argentium® Sterling is an alloy or mixture of silver containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper or other metals. Sterling silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength, durability and beauty.  But sterling silver tarnishes and needs regular polishing to keep it from darkening or turning black.

Argentium® is a welcomed discovery by Peter Johns in 1996, a professor of silversmith at the Art and Design Research Institute (ADRI), School of Art & Design, Middlesex University in England. The project began in 1990 with research on the effects of germanium additions to silver alloys. Johns discovered that by reducing the copper content in traditional silver and adding germanium (discovered in Germany nearly 100 year earlier) to silver, it stays bright and beautiful. Can you imagine silver jewelry that rarely needs polishing? Argentium forms a clear oxide reducing the tarnishing and contains 92.5% silver and no nickel. If you love the look of shiny silver that only needs an occasional wipe with a soft cloth to remove a smudge or finger mark, look no further.

For thousands of years, we’ve worn sterling silver bracelets, earrings, cuffs, rings, and necklaces. This shimmery white metal can be worn day or night and is a very popular in everyday jewelry. Sterling silver jewelry is far more affordable than white gold or platinum. Hunter-Wolff Gallery offers Argentium sterling silver in designs by DKC Jewelry which are very durable and easy to clean. Even better, if you have a nickel allergy, you can wear sterling silver earrings and other pieces made with Argentium because there is no nickel. Made by hand in Colorado, Argentium sterling silver jewelry is designed for everyday wear.

Everyone wants to be LIKED!   It should be easy to figure out if someone likes you or not but sometimes we get mixed signals.  Sometimes we misread those signals and then there are some people who are really, really hard to read because they don’t give any signals.  Besides reading body language, behavior, etc., you can just ask.  If asking is awkward and it is still important to know, then you can simply join Facebook and ask people if they like you–even those you hardly know.

As a business, it is easier to figure out who likes you if you are on Facebook.  You just have to ask, “Like Us” and it only takes a second for the response to show up.  If you are reading Hunter-Wolff Gallery’s Blog, we assume you do like us and you might be inclined to go to our Facebook page and show us that we are likeable with a click of the mouse.  We’d like that!  If you have never clicked our Like Us icon, please do.

If something about our service or products isn’t perfect for you, we’d like to know that too.  Send us an email through our contact page on our website.

Go to Facebook and give us the thumbs up! If you want us to LIKE your Facebook page, let us know.

Argentium Alloy

Jewelry by Tana

Just when you figured out all you needed to know about Sterling silver, someone comes along with a new improved version called Argentium®. Sterling is an alloy or mixture of silver containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper or other metals. Sterling silver made in the United States, except jewelry, is marked .925-.999 and silver is 99.9% pure and generally too soft for producing functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength, durability and beauty.  But sterling silver tarnishes and needs regular polishing.

Although it costs slightly more than Sterling Silver, Argentium® is a welcomed discovery by Peter Johns in 1996, a professor of silversmith at the Art and Design Research Institute (ADRI), School of Art & Design, Middlesex University in England. The project began in 1990 with research on the effects of germanium additions to silver alloys. Johns discovered that by reducing the copper content in traditional silver and adding germanium (discovered in Germany nearly 100 year earlier) to silver, it stays bright and beautiful. Can you imagine silver jewelry, hollowware and sculpture that rarely needs polishing? Argentium forms a clear oxide reducing the tarnishing and contains 92.5% silver and no nickel. If you love the look of silver only needs an occasional wipe with a soft cloth to remove a smudge or finger mark, look no further.

For thousands of years, we’ve worn sterling silver bracelets, earrings, cuffs, rings, and necklaces. This shimmery white metal can be worn day or night and is a very popular in everyday jewelry. Sterling silver jewelry is far more affordable than white gold or platinum. Hunter-Wolff Gallery offers Argentium sterling silver in designs by DKC Jewelry and Jewelry by Tana which are very durable and easy to clean. Even better, if you have a nickel allergy, you can wear sterling silver earrings and other pieces made with Argentium because there is no nickel. Made by hand in Colorado, Argentium sterling silver jewelry is designed for everyday wear.

Make a Note:  TRUNK SHOW featuring Argentium sterling silver by DKC Jewelry. Select from a large collection and have the option to collect DKC Signature earrings specially priced for this event on Saturday, August 24 at Hunter-Wolff Gallery. We look forward to seeing you there from 1-5 pm.

DKC Jewelry Made in Colorado with Argentium Silver

Not familiar with Argentium® sterling silver?  Silver jewelry is typically made from an alloy of silver containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper or other metals to give it strength, durability and beauty. But sterling silver tarnishes and needs regular polishing.

Since the late 1990’s, silver mixed with germanium (not copper) has become more and more popular in jewelry making.  It is called Argentium® and it stays bright and beautiful. Argentium® forms a clear oxide reducing tarnishing and contains 92.5% silver and no nickel or copper. At Hunter-Wolff Gallery, Argentium® sterling silver used in designs by Jewelry by Tana and DKC Jewelry is very durable and is easy to clean. You can clean it with a mild detergent and lukewarm water to bring back its shine. To maintain the shine and luster of Argentium® silver, simply wipe away any dust or finger marks with a soft cloth. More intricate pieces worn frequently may require an occasional wash in warm soapy water followed by a rinse and patted dry with a soft cloth to avoid watermarks. An infrequent wipe with a clean silver polishing cloth will help to protect Argentium® silver from finger marks and everyday dirt and grime.

Tip: Never use ‘dip-type’ polishes or electrolytic cleaning processes with Argentium® silver. More info in our March Newsletter.

Laughing Mango: Do you eat it or wear it?

index4_350

LM_Logo_tnWhat’s a “Laughing Mango” ?  It happens to be the quirky name of a beautiful line of playful jewelry by the not-too-serious designer, Holly Wiese.  However, Holly is serious about business but like the jewelry she designs and the lampwork glass beads she makes, Holly is joyful, colorful and a little zany.  What she is not is a jewelry-making hobbyist.  She is a highly focused designer, expert lampworker, skilled jewelry maker, and founder of Laughing Mango Design–a catchy name you just can’t forget.  With an entrepreneurial spirit, she turned her dream into a well-managed working studio with a small team of bead-makers who produce Laughing Mango designs to the exact specifications and quality standards set by Holly and appreciated by collectors.

Lollipop Bracelet

Lollipop Bracelet

Neck Lollipop,Fruit SaladThe Laughing Mango glass beads are vibrant and bold in solid or patterned colors.  Some are smooth and inviting to the touch while some textured beads contrast to the flat smooth surfaces for added exploration.  Her colorful collections are top of the line and found in art galleries, jewelry stores and museum gift shops from Martha’s Vineyard to Sonoma, California and more than a dozen cities in between.

If you have not yet collected this colorful, candy-like beaded jewelry, you don’t know what you are missing.  Pair Laughing Mango with your casuals and more formal wear – you may be surprised how it makes you feel a little giddy—like a Laughing Mango?
