BEN-9050 Random – Shadow Box ClockArtist
This shadow box clock, 25.75x15x2.25, is framed in an oak frame that has been treated with a Shou Sugi ban finish, a Japanese technique of charring the wood to protect it from the elements. It results in a deep black finish. The live edge wood that houses the clock is Spalted Silver Leaf Maple. The gradation in color of the copper backdrop was achieved by sandblasting and introducing various temperatures of heat. Each temperature and amount of time under the heat produces different shades of oranges, yellows and purples. For this clock the heat was applied in a random fashion which resulted in a wide range of colors in a random pattern across the sheet of copper.
