The Hunter-Wolff Gallery in Colorado Springs is proud to present a diverse collection of original works by local artist Gene Sanchez, known for his extraordinary landscapes, street scenes, portraiture, and still life paintings. Sanchez resides in Colorado Springs and is an accomplished artist who works in many different mediums.
From San Luis Valley in southern Colorado, Sanchez grew up in a culturally rich and geographically beautiful region of the country. These early influences are clearly reflected in the subject matter, color palette and composition of his work today. Having traveled abroad and throughout the southwest, Sanchez is drawn to paint scenes and people of places he has visited. He says he enjoys capturing the mood of the people he meets and observes and the street scenes in different geographical locations, the southwest and its people which have a special significance for him.
Sanchez first began working in watercolor and later discovered the creamy, rich colors of pastel painting and the ability to blend, for the softness and the bold strokes of a painterly look. More recently, he has transitioned to oils. Each medium is unique with specific challenges and offers Sanchez the opportunity to create in any medium for the most impact. Collectors appreciate the diversity of his work and ability to select his small, table-top sized oils to large, beautifully framed, museum-quality masterpieces.
