BEN-9048 Gradient Shadow Box ClockArtist
This shadow box clock is framed in an oak frame that has been treated with a Shou Sugi Ban finish, a Japanese technique of charring the wood to protect it from the elements. Its result is a deep black finish. The live edge wood that houses the clock is Spalted Silver Leaf Maple. The gradation in color of the copper backdrop was achieved by sandblasting and introducing various temperatures of heat. Each temperature and amount of time under the heat produces different shades of oranges, yellows and purples. There is a rich contrast between the colors and black, and dark wood vs light wood. The gradient patina on the copper gives the background some movement.
