Artist BRIAN JUDD Specializing in Wood Accessories

BRIAN JUDD

Hunter-Wolff Gallery is pleased to offer expertly crafted wood accessories, such as Shaker baskets by Brian Judd. Based in his Colorado Springs, Colorado workshop, Brian Judd creates beautiful wood items for the home along with furniture grounded in traditional as well as contemporary influences. He began his journey in Clinton, Iowa as a child working with his Amish uncle Walter John Kirst. Rooted in a tradition of hand tool woodworking he strives to keep the old way of doing things alive. Brian says he depends on skill, judgment, and intuition to reveal the underlying beauty of wood.

Brian draws inspiration from nature. Enjoying the outdoors is a central theme in his life’s work. Spending time on Colorado’s pristine waters fly fishing is a great influence. He also studied the philosophy of great contemporary woodworking craftsmen. Delving into the philosophies of master woodworkers James Krenove, Sam Maloof, and George Nakashima informs his perspective.

His current works include bent wood boxes, stained glass lamps with wood bases, and functional furniture. Care is taken to use sustainable materials, ensuring that the resources to make woodwork are preserved for future generations of craftspeople. Emerging areas of artistic growth are an interest in veneers to create contemporary designs.
